Are you a highly experienced Senior Environmental Scientist ready to lead complex, large-scale projects and multidisciplinary teams?
Join MKO, Ireland's largest Planning and Environmental consultancy. Our team of 220+ experienced professionals work at the cutting edge of planning, environmental, and ecological fields, delivering challenging and complex projects for major clients nationwide.
We are hiring a full-time Senior Environmental Scientist to join our growing General Environmental team. The successful candidate will work extensively on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects in the waste, water, quarrying, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. A broad range of experience leading large-scale projects in these areas is required.
This is a senior role where you will manage projects from inception to completion, taking ownership of technical excellence, financial performance, and the mentorship of junior team members.
 
What you’ll bring to MKO

Expert Project Oversight and Delivery
  • Take full ownership of projects from inception to completion, including managing project profitability.
  • Manage and oversee projects run by the General Environmental team day-to-day, including handling fee agreements, invoicing, and consistently delivering on client expectations.
  • Provide regular project updates to the General Environmental team Project Director (Eoin O’Sullivan) and clients, and report directly on project performance.
  • Skillfully prioritise projects while balancing client expectations, available staff resources, and project deadlines, thriving in a busy work environment and delivering to required deadlines.
  • Demonstrate experience managing project finances and deadlines.

Strategic leadership
  • Oversee, guide and manage junior team members and sub-consultants to deliver successful project requirements.
  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary teams on Environmental Impact Assessment projects.
  • Effectively engage with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Demonstrate excellent project management skills, be well-organised with meticulous attention to detail while managing a varied and full workload.
 
Driving Business Development
  • Manage and implement business development initiatives for team.
  • Win new work by preparing and overseeing the preparation of fee proposals, identifying opportunities in the marketplace and ensuring a steady work flow.

What we’re looking for in you:
  • A third-level qualification in environmental science, environmental engineering, or related fields that give the candidate the necessary skills to complete role.
  • A minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience in leading the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports for large scale projects. 
  • Experience leading and managing multidisciplinary teams on Environmental Impact Assessment projects is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish planning, environmental, and waste management legislation is essential, along with an excellent understanding of the Irish planning system.
  • Broad range of large-scale project experience at Planning/Construction stage.
  • Technical knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of civil engineering, construction management, ecology, hydrology/hydrogeology, noise, air, traffic, geotechnical and other Environmental Impact Assessment Report subject areas and the interrelationships between them.
  • Excellent report writing and technical reviewing skills, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Experience of engaging with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies, and managing project finances and deadlines.
  • A full clean driving licence.
