Job Description
We are recruiting an Ecological Clerk of Works to work within our growing Ecology team and meet the continued demand for our services.

The successful candidate will be working on projects in the wind energy, renewables, remediation, and infrastructure sectors.  A broad range of experience on similar types of projects in these sectors is desirable. The candidate will have experience in pre-commencement ecological surveys and overseeing ecological controls on construction sites.

MKO carries out a wide range of surveys as part of ECoW projects such as pre-commencement surveys for projected flora/fauna, habitat surveys, and invasive species surveys. MKO offers a range of monitoring as part of site supervision works from initial site set up, and invasive species monitoring to water quality monitoring, all of which are detailed in our final audit reports. Experience in planning condition compliance, implementing mitigation measures, on site monitoring, report writing, QGIS, and toolbox talks is desired. The ideal candidate will be pro-active at identifying and resolving ecological issues, have excellent communication skills, good record keeping, work well with site operatives, and enjoy the outdoors. The candidate will have the opportunity to work within one of Ireland’s largest ecology teams and as part of Ireland’s largest environmental and planning consultancy, gaining knowledge and experience through interactions with colleagues within the environmental, ecology, ornithology, and planning teams in particular.

 Key responsibilities:
  • Review relevant documents e.g. NIS, EcIA, CEMP, biodiversity, and habitat management plans.
  • Undertake pre-commencement and post operation ecological surveys, record data, create maps using QGIS, and produce detailed reports.
  • Provide ecological site supervision, record data and recommendations given to site operatives, and produce detailed final audit reports.
  • Consult with local planning authorities, local heritage officers, National Parks and Wildlife (NPWS), and Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI).
  • Take ownership of projects under the direction of senior team members from inception to completion and provide regular project updates to the ecology team seniors.
  • Have a good knowledge of construction and project development and environmental/ecological responsibilities during the construction and operational phases of projects.
Requirements:

  • A third-level qualification in environmental science, ecology or similar discipline, construction management, civil engineering, or related fields that give the candidate the necessary skills to complete role.
  • A minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience or a broad range of project experience at the construction stage.
  • Knowledge of construction and project management, ecology, and other EIAR subject areas.
Prospective candidates will be expected to have strong project management skills, great communication skills: written and verbal, and excellent IT skills, be well organised with meticulous attention to detail while also being able to manage a varied and full workload. The candidate should thrive in a busy work environment and deliver to the required project deadlines.
